Day 1: Arrival at Bujumbura Airport
Upon your arrival at Bujumbura airport, meet and greet with our office staff/ driver and proceed to your booked accommodation. You will be briefed about your 7 Days Best of Burundi Safari and immediately proceed for Bujumbura city tour. Visit the City Hall, Cultural Museum, Lake Tanganyika, the President’s Office and much more. Day 2: Kigwena Natural reserves – Rumonge Fishermen.
Get your morning breakfast ready for the drive to Kigwena Natural Forest reserve located on South-Western Burundi in Rumonge Commune in Bururi Province. It is enclosed in Cabara and Karonda villages in Kigwena zone. You will do a nature walk in this forest which will reward you with a lot of flora and fauna ranging from big trees with great histories, 93 species of birdlife, butterflies and also families of baboons, and various monkeys. Later have lunch and beach relaxation at blue bay before driving back to Bujumbura city. Day 3: Visit the source of the Nile and Karera falls
Be served breakfast at your hotel. Continue for a visit to the source of the Nile and Karera falls have fun while viewing the flowing and escalating falls combined with very many small falls. Proceed to Gitega town, the second biggest city after Bujumbura, visit the Gitega National Museum and if time allows visit the administrative offices, catholic location of Mushaha. Day 4: Gitega – Gishora tour
Relaxed breakfast at your hotel then you will have a visit to the well known drum sanctuary site in Gishora which is part of Burundi. The drum sanctuary site is known for having two ritual drums that were never beaten and they are known as Ruciteme and Murimirwa. These two names are connected to the farming vocation and they mean fertility in the local language in Burundi. You will also explore the customs and cultural traditions in drum sanctuary of Gishora. Lunch will be served in Gitega then have Gitega city tour to explore more architects and many collections found in this city. Dinner and Overnight at Orange or Helena Hotel Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 5: Explore Kirundo province
After breakfast, drive to Kirundo province known to have very many lakes among the eighteen provinces found in Burundi. The three lakes include Lake Cohoha, Rweru, and Rwihinda. Lakes Cohoha and Rweru are located in commune Busone, and Lake Rwihinda is in commune Kirundo. Kirundo is the capital city of province Kirundo. Take a canoe ride on Lake Cohoha to explore the scenic views and birdlife in this lake. Later you will be driven back to Bujumbura for dinner and overnight Kiriri garden hotel or Hotel club du lac Tanganyika Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking and Nature walk at Kibira National Park
Early morning breakfast at your hotel then proceed to Kibira National Park. It is located in northwestern Burundi. Overlapping four provinces and covering 400 km², Kibira National Park lies on top of the mountains of the Congo-Nile. Driving through the countryside of Burundi enjoying nature, you will arrive in time of Chimpanzee trekking. Have a briefing of the park history, rules and regulations then head to the forest in search for the chimpanzees. It is an opportunity to see other primates like black and white Colobus monkeys, baboons among other animals. Have lunch in one of the restaurants in Kibira. Later in the afternoon proceed for the Nature walk, enjoy nature, primates and also birds in this National Park. Drive back to Bujumbura for dinner and Overnight at Kiriri garden hotel or Hotel club du lac Tanganyika Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 7: Boat cruise at River Rusizi and Transfer to Bujumbura Airport
After breakfast, drive to Rusizi National Park just 15km from the city. Have the boat cruise on River Rusizi and enjoy seeing hippopotamuses, sitatungas, Gustave, and Nile crocodiles.
